Design and development of the programable keyboard for the Thermo Scientific™ Helios™ 5 electron microscope. The top surface of the keyboard is made of plastic with a soft satin finish that is pleasant to the touch and does not get cold in the hands. The semi-translucent material allows the icons of the programmable buttons to shine through. The aluminium keyboard body provides a stable and rigid construction for precise control of the microscope. The most challenging part of the development was to reconcile the design and finish requirements with the requirement for low volume production while keeping costs low.
